Raspberry Pi 3 Released
The Raspberry Pi Foundation has just released their successor to the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, the Raspberry Pi 3.
(And unlike the Pi Zero, which was “released” in December but still not available, we’ve actually got the Pi 3 in stock and will be able to fulfill orders as they are received)
The Raspberry Pi 3 has on-board 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 (classic and Low Energy). It has a quad-core 64 bit 1.2GHz processor (BCM2837, Arm Cortex-A53) and 1GB onboard RAM.
It has the same physical dimensions as the previous model, so all existing cases and peripherals fit.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation has also released a 2.5 Amp 5.1 volt power supply which they recommend using with the Pi, due to the increased power requirements and increased capability to power high-power USB devices.
(We will be able to get it on a tech bench and test its capabilities later in the week to see how it performs with our standard 2A power supplies, but for now we’re only working on the published specifications.)
Furthermore, the new version of NOOBS requires a 16GB micro-SD Card.
We’ve created a few starter kits with everything you’ll need to upgrade your existing Pi, or get your hands on the new Pi.
They’re in stock now and ready for immediate delivery here: http://www.buyraspberrypi.com.au/shop/product-category/kits/raspberry-pi-3-starter-kits/
