Raspberry Pi SoC Drivers are now Open Source!
Alex Bradbury from the Raspberry Pi foundation reports that the VideoCore driver code which runs on the ARM drivers for the Raspberry Pi are now Free, Open Source Software!
This is big news for those in the Application Development world, because now everybody has the same access to the video drivers to play at a hardware level.
For those in the know about these sort of software license, the exact licence variant is 3-clause BSD, and this is the first ARM SoC to have free, vendor supported open-source drivers.
Congratulations to the team at the Raspberry Pi Foundation for making this possible; and we look forward to the community’s innovation in the video driver space that is now possible!
